Rooftop Project (part 1)

For the rooftop project, I decided on building a run-down rooftop overgrown by trees, with a clock tower as a focal point. I began by looking for reference images of trees growing out of buildings and the sort of structural damage that came with it.

I also used some of the provided reference images for ideas about ways to make the layout interesting. In particular I liked the idea of slightly sloped roofs and using air vents to break up large areas.

After sketching out a few ideas on paper, I started blocking out ideas for the most basic layout in 3Ds max. I wanted different levels to the rooftop, and needed a design that would allow the player to move from one side of the level to the other in an interesting path

I sketched out a few ideas for the clocktower, focusing on the sillhouette since it would be a prominent part of the building's skyline. After I'd decided on a basic style, I blocked it out in 3DS max with basic shapes to see what it would look like from different angles, particually from where the rooftop would be. It needed to be readable from the level the player would be at.
